Short and easy walks
Welcome to the West Oxfordshire Ramblers Group. We have shorter midweek walks and longer ones at the weekend in varied countryside.
We have the Thames Path to the south, to the west we are in Cotswold country, there are several areas covered by what is left of the medieval Wychwood Forest, and we are fortunate to have access to two large maintained estates of woodland: Cornbury Park and the grounds of Blenheim Palace. Above is a group on their lunch-stop near Stonesfield Steps - meaning steps over the wall that surrounds the grounds of Blenheim.
The area is criss-crossed with sign-posted long-distance paths such as the Wychwood Way, Oxfordshire Way, Shakespeare's Way and the Palladian Way -- and sometimes you are on the route of the old Roman Road, the Akeman Street.
Anyone who joins us can be sure of lots of friendly conversation during the walks as well as at the mid-morning or lunch-time breaks. One of our favourite lunch stops, during a "bluebell" walk, is at the charming tea-room in the village of Wytham
