Overview

Join this friendly group on a 10.4 mile circular walk, heading west from the attractive village of Wickham St Paul. We will pass the Bulmer brick works and then a Roman villa site on the way to Gestingthorpe, the home of Captain Oates. From here we will make our way to historic Castle Hedingham, before returning via Great Maplestead.

Meet from 9.45am for a 10am prompt start.

There will be a few minor undulations along the way and, after recent rain, some stretches might be muddy. Walking boots are recommended. The group will maintain a steady pace but we will stop for breaks and a longer pause at lunch time. Bring your own food and drink.

There are public toilets in Castle Hedingham village at about the 6-mile point. Customers can also use facilities in the cafe and pubs in the village. Otherwise, there will be many opportunities 'in nature' along the way.
