Join the 20s-30s group for a 12km/7mile circular walk from Abergavenny, taking in the Brecon Canal and the River Usk.
We'll start from the Abergavenny bus station at 11:40 (to allow for those arriving on the 11:22 train), heading through castle meadows park to cross Abergavenny bridge and up through Llanfoist village. After a short, steep incline, we'll reach the Brecon Canal, which we will follow for 2.5km to Govilon. We will take a gentle descent through the village towards the river, and head back towards Abergavenny through fields, crossing back over the Usk River to finish at Linda Vista Gardens. For those who wish, we will then head into town for a coffee/drink.
Although mostly well made paths, the fields from Gavilon can be a little muddy, and expect several styles to cross at this section. There's a total of 150 meters ascent. There are a few busy road crossings heading into Llanfoist.
Bring a packed lunch and any drinks or snacks you may want for the walk, there won't be an opportunity to buy any once we leave Abergavenny, and likewise there won't be any toilet facilities other than the start and the end of the walk. Bring suitable footwear that can get a little muddy and any layers/waterproofs necessary for the weather on the day.
Please think about the footprint of your journey to the walk, and consider the train or car sharing.
