Breathe in lungfuls of fresh sea air on this scenic stretch of the Wales Coastal Path from Abergwyngregyn to Bangor. With the sparkling Menai Strait on one side and the rugged Carneddau mountains on the other, this is a walk of contrasts and wide-open views.
We follow the coast to Aber Ogwen, where the route now passes through the grounds of Penrhyn Castle (visible in the distance), before continuing to Porth Penrhyn. From here, the path sweeps along Hirael Bay, leading us towards one of the highlights of the day: Bangor Garth Pier – crowned Pier of the Year 2022 and the second longest pier in the UK.
There will be time to enjoy the pier before we make our way to the bus stop for the Arriva bus 5, returning us to the start point.
This is a fairly flat Grade D walk but some uneven surfaces – bring poles if you use them
Don't forget your bus pass. The single fare is £4.70 for non bus pass holders – bus every 20 min
£1 charge to access the pier
Toilets at start (Aber) and arrival (pier) – no charge
