We will take this 5 mile circular trail at a leisurely pace, going along the dam (a 45-meter-high embankment dam completed in 1976 to regulate the River Dee) and entering woodland along tracks, with great views of the Llyn and surroundings, passing the Afon Brenig at a small secluded caravan park. There are some modest inclines but no stiles.
There will be a stop for “brunch” as the walk is short enough to rejoin the Visitor Centre at lunchtime, using the picnic tables or indoors in the café (it can be busy on Saturdays).
This walk offers several options: (before lunch) you can continue with the group another half mile, (there and back), to the osprey lookout for a chance to observe the ospreys with scopes available to use for free from the North Wales Wildlife Trust and have lunch afterwards. Or you can do your own thing: make a day of it, pop into the Visitors Centre and learn more about the history of the Brenig Osprey Project or head home straight after the walk..
A note of caution: the weather at Llyn Brenig can change rapidly. Due to its high altitude on the Denbigh Moors, the area is known for experiencing quick shifts in weather conditions, including exposure to gales. Dress and kit up accordingly!
The car park is P&D - £3.00 for the day-
To pay for parking at Llyn Brenig, you can use the Connect Cashless Parking app (or website). Alternatively, parking can be booked on a mobile device via the GroupNexus app using QR codes found on site, or by paying at the visitor centre
