Today's walk takes us in many footpaths that I became familiar with during the pandemic and now some of them feature regularly as part of one of my running routes.
We will meet at Clayfield Copse Car Park for a prompt 10:30am start and head out on tarmac footpaths to begin with and then leave behind to tackle what I can only describe as one of North Reading's most notorious footpaths. Let's hope we haven't had too much rain leading up to today's walk!
We stride out to Chalkhouse Green and then beyond to Crowsley Park, home to a signals receiving station used by the BBC. We continue our South Oxfordshire adventure through small hamlets such as Binfield Heath and Shiplake Row before, all being well, ending up at Loddon Brewery to slack our thirst. This is a cracking little spot and well geared up for a group of Ramblers. We aim to stay here for around 45-60 minutes at the walk leaders discretion, it could be time for quicker drinkers to grab a second pint or slower ones to drink leisurely. Don't worry, a good stock of non-alcoholic beverages are available too. Also of note, the Brewery has a farm shop on site so feel free to pop your head in. It is a short distance back to the car park where this circular walk concludes.
The walk is over a combination of muddy, grassy footpaths and some tarmac in places with minimal height gain. Please bring as usual snacks, water and perhaps something to sit on for a lunch stop. Note the start point is accessible by public transport (bus) should you require it from Reading or Caversham.
