Overview

Ailsa Craig (‘fairy rock’ in Gaelic) is a dramatic granite island, situated well off the coast from Girvan. The island is the source of most of the world’s curling stones. Around 40,000 pairs of gannets nest on the island and is the third-largest gannet colony in the world.

As per Walkhighlands, ‘the ascent to its highest point as described here is extremely steep and rough: it gives a real hillwalking challenge but an unforgettable one.’ Ailsa Craig - the ascent (Walkhighlands)

The ‘ascent of Byne Hill offers some of the best views in Ayrshire’. Byne Hill, Girvan (Walkhighlands)

If the weather allows, we can stop by Girvan Beach for a swim on the way back :^)
