Overview

The walk begins from the Northumberland National Parks car park in Alwinton and follows Clennell Street, an old drovers’ route that went from Morpeth to Kelso, for a short distance before heading down towards the River Alwin and through the forest to Kidland, looping round to rejoin Clennell Street at Wholehope and return to Alwinton.

The walk is varied and includes fairly well-marked footpaths and forestry tracks and roads. Two steepish ascents and plenty of open countryside with extensive views.

Lunch stop on the walk, refreshments afterwards at the Rose and Thistle in Alwinton if desired.
