Overview

We are heading North this week to walk through the country parks and surrounding countryside of this old mining area. The walk will be along quiet lanes, footpaths and fields. The route is mostly easy going with some short, steep climbs and approximately 11 stiles.

Moderate

After the first hour or so we will stop for a 10 minute coffee/tea/water break and then later there will be a half hour lunch stop to sit and soak up the delights of nature, and eat our packed lunches. Something to sit on is a good idea and waterproofs are probably vital, let's hope the forecast changes or is wrong!

We are always pleased to welcome new walkers but it would be helpful if you could let Andy know if you plan to join us so he can look out for you in the car park.

There will be an opportunity to use the toilets 15 minutes after the start.

After the walk we will repair to the pub, probably The Gresley Arms as it is only about a mile from the car park.

  • Toilets available

From the M6 J15 Turn left onto the A519 and follow for 2.25 miles to Newcastle under Lyme. Follow the ring road clockwise signed A34 Congleton. At the third island turn left onto the B5367, signed Newcastle College. Follow this road for approx 2.5miles to the second car park on the right. N.B. NOT THE ONE WITH WIND TURBINES! The A34 through Stone to NUL also works and you may choose to avoid Cannock and Stafford (I would) and use the A51 to stone where you can join the A34, then as above.
