A walk to the wooded gorge of Ashgill force and a chance to explore the mining heritage in the hills around Nenthead.
From Nenthead we follow a short section of Isaac's Tea Trail as it follows the River Nent north to the site of Haggs mine. We then climb by the large Greengill hush, and cross the side of Alston Moor to reach the remains of Bentyfield mine and the Garrigill Burn.
Our next section takes us through fields above Garrigill and up the wooded gorge to Ashgill Force (that has a drop of around 55 ft). Shortly after reaching the road at Ashgill Bridge, we take a footpath around the base of Flinty Fell, via the lovely named Seldom Seen, to the top of Ash Gill. Finally, we follow a track down along Old Carr's Burn and through the extensive disused mine workings at Nenthead.
A mix of tracks, field and moorland paths (with some patches of indistinct footpath).
