As part of the celebration of the coronation of Athelstan 1100 years ago, a walk has been planned over 11 days from Malmsbury in Wiltshire to Kingston Upon Thames. Kingston Ramblers are participating by leading the walk from Chertsey Bridge to Hampton Court, mostly along the Thames Path. The official walk begins at 10am, but we will begin 10 minutes after everyone else, to allow for Freedom pass use and to meet with the timings of trains. King Athelstan was Crowned in Kingston Upon Thames on 4th September 924 and is buried in Malmsbury Abbey. Athelstan was the grandson of Alfred the Great and the king that united the Anglo Saxons and so was the first King of all of England.
