Overview

A gentle walk on a high quality trail path, from Balerno slightly downhill to the Slateford Visitors Centre. The plan is to travel by bus to allow for a one way walk. There is one flight of steps at the end we will be going down. The walk will follow the Water of Leith and take in the Union Canal Aqueduct. The route provides many views of the water and weirs as it flows towards Edinburgh.

Catch the X58 bus - Pentland Rise at 08.48 and Ferry Toll at 09.08 or any other stops to suit. We get off at the West End, walk a short distance to catch the 44 bus for Balerno (fairly frequent). We get off at Balerno High School, close to the beginning of the path, and the start of the walk. Turn to your left after getting off the bus to where the walk is signposted. The walk start will have to be flexible 10.30 to 11.00 to cater for any delays in the bus services. We will return from Slateford, using the same two services. Finish time shown means at the Visitors centre. Allow a further 2.5  hours to return to Dalgety Bay. If alternatively you wish to travel by car, then it would be possible to catch a 44 bus again back to Balerno from Slateford and walk back to where you have parked your car.
