Belmont is just east of Winter Hill and west of Ramsbottom and is within the area known as the West Pennine Moors. So our walks today could head west towards Anglezarke and Winter Hill, or east and Darwen Moor. With the Witton Weavers Way close by, and the Turton and Entwistle Reservoirs not far away, The one thing that you can be sure of is some excellent moorland walking.
Three walks will be available with details circulated on the coach. They will range from easy to strenuous depending on the walk selected.
A Walk Leader - Dave Trembath - Ten & half miles with 1750ft of ascent. Heading east from Belmont we join the Witton Weavers Way taking us into the Longworth Hall Plantation. We then climb up to Turton Heights before dropping down to the scenic Turton & Entwistle Reservoir. From here we begin the return to Belmont, retracing the second half of the route back.
B Walk Leader - John Slatcher - From the village we wall down the valley to Egerton and onwards up the hill to join the Witton Weavers Way before making our way back. Firstly down hill, then through a forest, and finally, along a lane and paths to Belmont.
C Walk Leader - Dave Eccles - 6 to 6.5miles & 868ft of gradual climb. Leaving the village from the south end of Belmont Reservoir and then up to Longworth Moor to join the Witton Weathers Way as far as Delph Reservoir. Then along the bottom of Long Worth Clough before heading slightly up the field to the A675 and back to Belmont for refreshments.
