Join us for a 7.5 mile walk starting from the village of Benington, walking to Watton-at-Stone where we will stop for a 45-minute break. Here we can enjoy a New Year drink in the recently refurbished George and Dragon pub. For those who don't fancy a pub stop there is also a coffee shop called 'Crumbs' in Watton, or a short walk to the Methodist Church which is situated in the high street.
Starting just outside the Church of St Peters in Bennington opposite the bus stop where there is roadside parking nearby, we will follow Town Lane until we turn right to join some waymarked permissive paths and tracks, some of which may be quite muddy.
The walk involves gently rolling countryside and views but also two busy road crossings and a short roadside stretch towards Whempstead. We will walk through the Jubilee Community Wood which was established by Woodhall Estate in 2012 as a recreational space for the enjoyment of the community and to celebrate the Queen's Diamond Jubilee, and is planted with 25,000 young trees and covered in flora and fauna.
We will head back to Benington via grassy tracks and undulating fields via Gregory's farm and Burns Green until we arrive back in Benington with a short walk along Town Lane until we arrive back at the church.
Please note: this is an earlier starting time than normal because of the reduced daylight hours.
Postcode for the start of the walk is SG2 7LH
There is no need to pre-book or contact the leader in advance. If already a Ramblers member, please bring your Ramblers card (or membership details on the app) as we submit a register to Ramblers before we start the walk. Totally new members are allowed to come on up to three walks before joining.
