We cross fields to the south of Bobbington before turning east to join the Staffordshire Way passing Mere Hall and Mere Farm, both listed buildings, before reaching Crab Lane opposite a magnificent chestnut tree. We make a circuit of Highgate Common, a remnant of an ancient lowland heath, before turning towards Halfpenny Green Airport, which was established as an aerodrome for the RAF in 1941. It was going to be renamed 'Wolverhampton Business Airport' but some residents of Wolverhampton were unhappy with its initials - W.B.A - so it is now Wolverhampton Airport. We then return to Bobbington for refreshments at the inn.
