We commence our walk steeply from Bontddu, heading up through the woods and goldmines to Banc-y-Fran. There is then a sustained steep ascent following the Braich to meet the ridge at the top of the Janet Haigh path, which comes up from Pont Scethin. We turn left to follow the ridge to Bwlch y Rhiwgyr, the ridge wall giving us a good “handrail” in bad weather. We descend from here to Banc-y-Fran, thence on down the quiet lane to return to Bontddu.
This is a long walk for a short winter's day and will need to be undertaken at a brisk pace. This, together with the fact that we ascend to a high point of nearly 600 metres, leads to its grading as strenuous.

This walk is in an area where sheep and cattle are farmed and regrettably is not suitable for dogs.
