Starting on the edge of the Coed-y-Brenin Forest, we walk along a quite rough single track road for half a mile before crossing over a field to the small village of Ganllwyd. We then cross the busy A470 (care must be taken whilst crossing this very busy road) and proceed to walk up a steep path to the Rhaeadr Du Waterfalls, where we will stop for a coffee break and photos. Great care must be taken by the waterfall as the paths are rocky, with a sharp drop down to the stream below, and can be slippery. We then will proceed through a traditional Welsh woodland, picking up the Cefn Goch Gold Mine trail and continuing over grazing land. Once at the Gold Mine we will stop for lunch with stunning views over the Ganllwyd valley below. We will then start to head down through the field and forest. We come back into Ganllwyd again and walk along the A470 back towards the start. This is a 60mph section of the road and extreme caution must be used when crossing it to get back to the car park.
Group grade C+
This walk is in an area where sheep and cattle are farmed and regrettably is not suitable for dogs.
(Toilets are available at the car park and in the village of Ganllwyd.)
