We are the Mid Berks Ramblers. We open the way for everyone in our local community to enjoy the pleasures of walking.
Starting from near the Fox Inn in Hermitage we trace the haunts and walk past the cottage where D.H.Lawrence lived for a while. We initially walk through Roebuck Wood then follow woodland and open fields to Fence Wood and Grimsbury Castle, finally following a disused railway line back to the start. The walk has a few ups and downs so is classified as moderate but taken at a leisurely pace should not prove too much of a problem. There is an optional stop for a drink or lunch at the Fox Inn at the end of the walk.
This pleasant walk is mainly through woodland and farmland but there is also just a little urban walking and walking along quiet roads. There are a couple of steep climbs through the woodland which could make the category of the walk moderate in places. In woodland be careful of the usual trip hazards especially low running brambles which may be unseen.
Park in the Fox Inn car park if you intend to have lunch or a drink after the walk or use local street parking otherwise.
