A 12.3 mile circular walk starting and ending at Boxford recreational ground.
Exiting the recreation ground car park at Boxford, the walk heads directly west away from the village towards Elcot and Clapton. Here we will pause for a break and hopefully enjoy views south towards Walbury Hill. There is also the site of the Roman road, Bath to Ermin Street, in the area. Once past Radley Farm, noting it's unpaved airstrip, we turn north to Windingwood Lane, here we will enjoy the sights and sounds of the M4.
The route now turns east as we begin our return to Boxford. A break for lunch in the environs of Wickham before heading to Tullocks Farm, in the parish of Welford. By way of Easton Hill and Westbrook Farm, the route navigates to the north of Boxford and into the village, where we will take in the 13th Century St. Andrew's Church. Here we will pause and walk through the graveyard and admire the chalk stream (River Lambourn) before returning to the car park.
The walk is mainly on farm track, lanes and field footpaths. The walking is easy going and the inclines gentle. There a number of small sections of road walking, usually light traffic although there is the occasional fast vehicle warranting care and attention. All surfaces are good for walking.
Please have appropriate outdoor clothing and footwear and bring sufficient food and drink for the day, with due consideration of the forecast weather conditions. Whilst there are sections of the walk in shade, unfortunately there is no cover / shelter for refreshment stops.
There are four stiles and one wire fence. The only livestock visible on the pre-walk was sheep.
The walk is restricted to 18 participants, please book online via the website link provided by 6pm, Wednesday, 20th August.
