We meet at the Bramcote Hills Park, follow the Broxtowe Country Trail north through Strelley to Swingate, turn south to Cossall Marsh and follow the old Nottingham Canal east to the Pit Lane Recreation Area and Stapleford Hill back to start.
Highlights are the walled garden at the start, the charming old village of Strelley, the Victorian Water Tower at Swingate, the scenic disused Nottingham Canal, and finally the mythical sandstone outcrop of Hemlock Stone.
This is a delightful circular stroll through the remaining green pocket between the urban sprawls of western Nottingham, Kimberley, Ilkeston and Stapleford.
The start is easily reached from the A52 off Junction 25 of the M1. It is almost entirely traffic-free, follows well surfaced trails with only occasional puddles and soft spots, making it the perfect winter walk.
Bring a packed lunch.
