Hello Everyone
Destination Burntwood this Sunday keeping things rather local.
Walk leader Alison has an interesting route lined up taking in Hammerwich, the outskirts of Lichfield, Fosseway Heath nature reserve, and finally the Woodland Trust reserve before returning to our start point. Reasonably flat throughout with five stiles only. Terrain includes field footpaths, woodlands, lanes, and a bit of road & sidewalk stuff. Be prepared for muddy stretches given the wet weather of late.
Why not join us? As ever, you're welcome to do so. Ideal if you could let us know a day or two beforehand if this is your first time out with the group. Thank you very much.
Registration: 09.45. Walk start: 10.00. Walk leader: Alison (07742 855125)
No facilities at the start, but possible at Waitrose Lichfield around lunchtime. If you're travelling some distance to join us then loo's are available within Burntwood Leisure Centre a couple of miles west situated off High Street, Chasetown WS7 3XH. They're open very early.
Post walk refreshments venue to be sorted out once we've finished.
⚠️Our own members should note that there's no rendezvous at Hednesford for this local walk. Please go direct to the start.
Directions. The start is situated on the eastern edge of Burntwood and best accessed from the A5190 Cannock to Lichfield road. Satnav best if you have it. Local directions as follows:
Pick up A5190 from either Cannock or Lichfield and follow the signage for Burntwood.
From the Cannock direction keep on the A5190 though various islands to eventually pass the Morrison's superstore on your left and follow the course of the road, direction Lichfield, past Aldi, Chase Terrace Tech, both on your left, over two sets of traffic lights, and then downhill to Burntwood village and Swan island. Straight over Swan island, still A5190 direction Lichfield. After 0.5 mile turn left at the lights into Farewell Lane, Burntwood, and continue uphill for 0.3 mile until the T-junction with St. Matthew's Road where turn right.
Proceed along St. Matthew's Road for 0.4 mile passing St Matthew's Social Club on your left and onwards to where the start point is on the left of the roadside shortly after passing Sister Dora Avenue at the summit of the hill. Photo and OS map copy above for your ready reference.
From the Lichfield direction things are easier. Pick up the A5190 off the A461 Lichfield to Walsall road and follow the signs for Burntwood. Proceed for 1.9 miles to the outskirts of Burntwood and the lights at the junction of Farewell Lane where turn right, then as above.
