Overview

We organise on Meetup, please use the web-link below to let us know you are coming.

The walk starts and ends at Cambridge Regional College’s (CRC) lily pond, which is directly in front of the college and away from the path, so we don’t get in the way of any pedestrians or cyclists (do watch out for them!)

There are two bus stops serving CRC, one is for the Guided Bus and the other stop is on Kings Hedges Road. It’s easy to take the train to Cambridge North Station and then either a 30-minute walk to CRC, or there is a bus from the train station.

The walk is part urban and part walking trails. It takes in some old and new perspectives of Cambridge.

We start by walking along the path adjacent to the Guided Bus route, towards St. Ives. This can be busy, so keep an eye out for other cyclists and walkers. I’d recommend walking not more than 2 abreast.

As we pass through Histon, you will see the Chivers jam factory on the right-hand side. Shortly after that, we enter Girton wood and take the trail to Girton.

At Girton, we can enjoy the sculpture in front of the church, before walking to Eddington along the street and through fields.

At Eddington, you will see the latest high-density housing being constructed on former green belt land. There is a beautiful old tree that has been protected from the building works.

We will walk round Brook Leys lake and picnic ground, stopping for lunch. There some beautiful wild flowers and rushes surrounding the lake.

After lunch, we will head back along some nature trails to re-join the Guided Bus route, arriving back at Cambridge Regional College.

Please bring and packed lunch, something to drink, sun hat and sun cream and waterproofs.
