Overview

We organise on Meetup, please sign-in at the link below to let us know you are coming.

The walk starts and ends at Reach.

We can car-share or take the regular bus service from Cambridge (see below).

This is a spectacular walk, taking in the beautiful villages of Reach and Swaffham Prior, and their historical sites. We start in Reach and ramble around Reach Wood; then take the scenic path to Swaffham Prior, where we will walk by the Swaffham Prior Windmill and the Churches of St. Mary and St. Cyriac and St. Julitta.

Next, we head cross-country through some wild brush to rendezvous with Devil’s Dyke: a historical marvel that is over 1000 years old. We can eat lunch perched upon this man-made wonder and survey the landscape around us. We will walk straight along Devil’s Dyke back to its starting point in Reach, passing a disused railway track, and always under the big sky.

On Saturday, 9 August 2025, Reach is served by the Stagecoach T4 Tiger route running hourly from early morning to early evening (approx. 06:30–19:00). And from Cambridge Drummer street bus station the T5 A2B, connects to the T4 at Swaffam Prior.
