IMPORTANT: You need to book a place (see below) so I know who is coming – it helps understand numbers and can be especially useful where parking is limited.
Although described as Leisurely for distance and/or terrain, please be aware that we walk at a reasonably brisk pace, so it’s important to have a reasonable level of fitness. Please contact the walk leader if you have any concerns.
Walk Description
More greenery than you might imagine, this is an opportunity to explore the intertwine of urban with countryside, as we begin in the built-up Poole suburb known as Canford Heath, tracing well established paths through the nearby park and then a bit of roadside pavement to connect with a pretty stretch of the Bourne valley before heading to Knighton Heath. We descend through the golf course to link up to the Stour Valley Way (SVW), then through the grounds of posh Canford School before turning upward to ‘proper’ Canford Heath (i.e. actual heath and an SSSI home to the UK’s precious species of lizard) as we follow good tracks back, gradually regaining the urban feel of our start point, yet still with plenty of green. With all the recent downpours, this route avoids wet and muddy in the main - there are some wet grassy stretches, though track shoes are fine if preferred. Lunch will be taken at the approximate half-way point, near the SVW. Optional refreshments at the end in The Pilot pub.
Meet Point: Pavement parking only, please car share wherever possible to limit impact and reduce our carbon footprint.
We meet in one of the several cul de sacs found in a sprawling crescent called Warburton Road. Please pay close attention to the exact meet point and make your way to it on foot from your parking place, as not everyone will be able to park in that specific section of Warburton Road. NOTE: postcode is very approximate AND SLIGHTLY MISLEADING, WHAT3WORDS is better. See further directions.

Additional guidance to reach meet point:
Further directions: at the ‘Asda’ roundabout in Canford Heath, take an exit (Adastral Road) opposite to the turn towards the Asda and you should almost immediately see the entrance to the Magna Academy School and Leisure Centre on the right. Continue past the school to the next right, Warburton Road. The meet point is at the end of the second right.
