Overview

A city centre circular walk exploring historic sites, riverbank and canal side paths in Manchester and Salford. 

We will walk through Roman Manchester, the Castlefield Bowl to the River Irwell by Factory International. A short loop to look at Middlewood locks and then we will walk down the Irwell to the Mark Addy Bridge and then back into Castlefield via the Bridgewater Canal. The walk continues by the River Medlock to Home Mcr, with options for the route back to Deansgate Tram stop.

Steps or lift down from and back up to Deansgate Tram stop, good paths, some cobbles and a few more steps to the Mark Addy bridge and a couple of humpback bridges over canal arms.

This is a short, 4 mile circular walk. There will be some pauses at points of interest but no refreshment stops planned on the route, we should finish for 1.00 so options for lunch in town after the walk.

Meet at Deansgate Castlefield Tram Stop, on the platform for trams going into the city centre. It is on the Altrincham – Bury, East Didsbury – Rochdale, Eccles to Ashton and Airport to Victoria Lines. There are some buses services, the 255, X50 and Free Bus No1, that stop in Whitworth Street West.
