Immerse yourself in beautiful countryside, invigorating exercise, and great company on a memorable 9-mile circular walk that’s sure to be the highlight of your week. Our route begins and ends in the picturesque village of Charlbury, nestled in the Evenlode Valley just six miles north of Witney in West Oxfordshire. Sitting on the edge of Wychwood Forest and the Cotswolds, Charlbury provides the perfect gateway to a scenic adventure.
We’ll set off along a peaceful track past Walcot Farm, climbing gently toward Little Cranehill Copse. Along the way, we’ll pause to take in sweeping views across the valley and the charming hamlet of Shorthampton. From there, we’ll meander along a quiet single-track lane, surrounded by tranquil woodland, before descending through the trees toward the delightful village of Finstock.
Reaching Finstock, we’ll follow the south side of the village along Ramsden Hill Longcut, looping back toward the welcoming Plough Inn. Here, there’ll be time to relax, chat, and enjoy a well-earned refreshment and packed lunch, with a fine selection of ales and non-alcoholic drinks on offer.
Refreshed, we’ll continue through the village and join a well-trodden path alongside the historic Cornbury Park Estate. As we pass the estate, we’ll catch glimpses of the grand manor house and stroll beside its idyllic lake, with postcard-worthy views at every turn.
The final stretch leads us back toward Charlbury, guiding us through the heart of this characterful market town, where honey-coloured stone cottages and historic buildings line the streets.
To round off the day, there’s the option to gather at one of Charlbury’s welcoming local pubs — the perfect place to relax, swap stories from the walk, and enjoy a well-earned drink together. Whether you fancy a pint of local ale, a glass of wine, or something soft and refreshing, it’s an ideal spot to unwind, chat, and soak up the friendly village atmosphere before making the short stroll back to the station.
This walk is a wonderful way to experience the natural beauty of the Cotswolds, meet like-minded people, and discover the charm of Charlbury. Don’t miss out—join us for a day of fresh air, exploration, and unforgettable scenery.
We look forward to sharing this beautiful journey with you!
