A circular walk across open land around Chaldon Down, taking in some great coastal and inland views.
From our start in the hamlet of Chaldon Herring we head north and join an historic ridgeway which delivers us into the pretty village of Winfrith Newburg. Heading south-east, we pick up Winfrith Drove for a long but gentle climb toward the coast.
Our coastal section begins up high on good terrain, where we pick up views toward Portland, before heading down to join the south-west coast path around the headland at White Nothe. From here, we head back up to ridge and north toward the hamlet of Holworth.
A gentle climb from Holworth gets us back onto the ridgeway, where we should have some fine views of central Dorset, before looping back to Chaldon Herring.

This walk has some long and level sections; some long and gentle inclines, with one or two steepish climbs. Terrain is generally very good with a few short sections of wet grass perhaps being the most we should have to contend with. The landscape is open and largely unprotected and it can get very windy up high, so keep an eye on the forecast and bring appropriate choices of layers. No toilets are available on this route.
