Are you ready to explore the breathtaking beauty of the Chilterns? Join us as we walk the Chiltern Way in stages, discovering picturesque landscapes, charming villages, and hidden gems along the way. This long-distance trail, covering approximately 177 miles, offers a perfect mix of rolling hills, wooded paths, and open fields. From historical landmarks to cozy pubs, each stage of the Chiltern Way promises new discoveries and delightful experiences.

Section 5 sets off at Sonning common where we head back towards the Thames through woods, valleys and past stately homes such as Mapledurham House. In order to make this walk fully accessible by public transport we will continue on after leaving the Chiltern Way at Whitchurch down the hill to Pangbourne station, where there may be an opportunity for a post-walk drink before we get the train back to the start.

IMPORTANT - MEETING OPTIONS

The main plan for this walk is to utilise public transport and meet at Reading Station (South entrance) at 11:00 in order to catch the 11:20 bus (the pink 25) from Friar Street stop FJ. We will then get the bus to Sonning Common and walk to Pangbourne, and get the train back to Reading (every 30 mins on Saturdays). Parking in Reading centre is a bit pricier unfortunately, the best option appears to be Broad Street Mall Car Park (£8.10 for 24 hours, RG1 7QE).

Alternatively, you could park at Pangbourne (£4.40 for the day) and get the train to meet us at 11, or you can meet us in Sonning Common (Bird In Hand Lane) at 11.45 and make your way back to your car via train and bus at the end!
