Chiltern Way Side Adventure - Henley Loop
This walk follows part of the Berkshire Loop, a 28-mile extension to the Chiltern Way, created in 2010 to mark the 10th anniversary of the Chiltern Way’s opening. Our route covers one of the circular sections from Henley, before linking up with the next leg towards Cookham.
We begin by heading out of Henley along the Thames Path towards Marsh Lock. At this point, we’ll need to take a short diversion from the official route, as the footbridge has been closed since May 2022 due to safety concerns.
Instead, we follow Mill Lane up through Harpsden Heights before rejoining the route near Henley Golf Club. From here, we continue through Harpsden Wood and High Wood, enjoying a mix of woodland paths and quieter countryside stretches, before passing the Bottle and Glass Inn on Bones Lane.
We then continue along Bones Lane, through Bones Wood, and on towards Kings Farm Lane, where we’ll find a peaceful spot to stop for lunch.
After lunch, we skirt around Rotherfield Greys and, depending on numbers, weather and space, there may be an opportunity for a quick drink stop at The Maltsters Arms.
From there, we pick up Pack and Prime Lane for the final stretch back towards Henley-on-Thames and the start point. For anyone wanting to extend the day, Henley has plenty of pubs, cafés and coffee shops for post-walk refreshments.
