Circular Berkhamsted walk

Meet: Berkhamsted Station. Roadside parking is very limited, but plenty of space in the station car park (£6.40 for the day). Or take the train from Euston (the 09.56 arrives at Berkhamsted at 10.28, but please check times). Public toilets at station. From Berkhamsted Station we walk up to Berkhamsted Common past open fields, up to the ridge overlooking the town, with splendid unspoilt views. Then down, past the Alpine Meadow, for the las mile along the Grand Canal towpath (no stiles). Plenty of park area for a leisurely picnic lunch, canalside pubs or pop up to the cafés in the charming High Street with magnificent church and Town Hall. Afterwards a chance to visit the remains of the 12 th century castle next to the station.
