Overview

We begin on a short stretch of road before heading along paths and fields to Hinton Daubney, then towards Catherington with views across from Portsdown Hill to Butser Hill.  We climb the SSSI of Catherington Down before reaching Catherington and making our way via various paths, with some stiles, to behind All Saints Church.  From here we head to Hinton Manor and through a vineyard before heading down to the road.

There is an option here to shorten the walk by a mile by walking back along the wide verge to the cars.

UPDATE: Tuesday 18 June.

We recced this today, and had forgotten the inclines involved!  We recommend poles if you need them.  It’s all worth it, there are some stunning views to compensate.  There are also now some ponies in a field that we walk through, but they came nowhere near us.
