Walking in Waltham and beyond
Welcome to the Waltham Ramblers group. We are based around Bishops Waltham in Hampshire, an area of farmland and gentle hills with numerous footpaths.
We organise three types of walks – Wednesday mornings (about 5 miles), Sundays all-day (usually 8-10 miles when members bring a picnic lunch), and Friday evenings (4-5 miles) during May-September.
Our Wednesday and Friday walks usually start from a location within about 15 miles of Bishops Waltham. Our longer Sunday walks are sometimes more distant. We regularly travel further into the South Downs, into Sussex, into the New Forest, and occasionally to the Isle of Wight.
Our walks are usually leisurely or moderate in pace. There is always plenty of time and opportunity to talk with the other walkers, and to enjoy the varied countryside and the wildlife for which our area is well known.

The Waltham group is one of the smallest in the Hampshire Area, but it is an active group with a well-attended programme of walks, as well as social events and footpath maintenance activities. We welcome walkers from other Ramblers groups, new Ramblers members, and potential members wanting a taste of our activities.
We have a series of popular social events where regular walkers can socialise with members who no longer walk. Each year there is an Annual Lunch, usually a summer picnic where each member brings a plate of food for sharing, and usually two indoor evening events.
Members have the opportunity of voluntary work in our footpath team. We work in 11 parishes in conjunction with the Countryside Service of Hampshire County Council – survey work, monitoring, and maintenance - clearing vegetation, maintaining waymarkers, and replacing stiles with kissing-gates where appropriate.
