A "classic" walk up Roseberry Topping and Captain Cook's Monument.
It's a great walk taking in the must do - Roseberry Topping . We will take in moors with extended views, icons and monuments on this walk. There is woodland and a little bit of road walking but no toilets. (There are toilets in Great Ayton). There are a couple of significant inclines on this walk with over 1400 feet of total ascent.
The car park is large and free. The car park does not have a postcode, some houses at Gribdale Terrace , TS9 6HN is useful but not the destination. From Great Ayton with the grass village square on your right, go along High Street passing the Captain Cook Schoolroom Museum on your left , find Station Road staying on it to pass Great Ayton rail station joining Dikes Lane , passing Gribdale Terrace to arrive at the car park.
No livestock encountered on Recce
A few stiles - nothing difficult or broken.
We leave the car park with an incline , crossing moorland and eventually Roseberry Topping appears and provides great views. The descent is relatively steep but it's a stepped path so hopefully straightforward. After some woodland walking and small quiet road walking we ascend to Captain Cook's monument before returning to the car park.
We will return to Great Ayton Royal Oak for refreshments.
