This walk, in memory of Mid Sussex Ramblers founder member, Les Campbell is possibly his favourite walk, as told to one of his friends, and I aim to recreate it as far as possible as a tribute to his many contributions to walking in Sussex, from which we continue to benefit.
Starting at the Jack and Jill windmills at Clayton, we walk along the spine of the South Downs on the South Downs Way, to Ditchling Beacon and then continue on to Mount Harry before dropping down to the pretty village of Offham. We then join the Drove and eventually cross the Greenwich Meridian and head on down to the River Ouse. Following the footpath by the side of the Ouse passing South Malling Church and soon arriving at Lewes.
We will spend an hour or so in Lewes where we will have an opportunity to explore the local hostelries and raise a glass to Les, who I think would approve.
We will make our way to Tesco Car Park where we meet a minibus to take us back to Clayton Windmills.
PLEASE NOTE The Minibus can take 16 passengers
IF WE CAN FILL THE BUS THE CHARGE WILL BE AROUND £7.50 PER PERSON. PLEASE LET THE LEADER KNOW IN ADVANCE, AS SOON AS POSSIBLE, IF YOU WOULD BE INTERESTED IN JOINING THIS WALK AS WE WILL NEED FIRM BOOKINGS AND PAYMENT IN ADVANCE TO BE ABLE TO SECURE THE MINIBUS.
Free Parking at Clayton Windmills Car Park.
Please bring drinks, snacks and a picnic lunch.
Please see above re contacting the walk leader.
