Starting from the Youth Hostel at Coalport, we’ll follow paths on the Silkin Way and Monarch’s Way towards pretty Lloyds Coppice. We’ll cross the river Severn over the colloquially known ‘Batman’ bridge, then there’s a gentle climb up towards Broseley. We’ll skirt round the edge of the town then follow good tracks over farmland, and head back down towards the river. On a clear day there are lovely countryside views from this track and we'll pass evidence of the industrial heritage of the area including old quarry-workings and china works. We’ll then follow a section of the Severn Way, passing a recently logged area, recrossing the river at Coalport Bridge, and back to the youth hostel.
Please bring a snack, drink and packed lunch.
Most of the walk is on good good paths and tracks, due to recent heavy rain some of these are very muddy and there is a short downhill section of quite steep steps. Poles are advised if you use them.
We'll be meeting outside Coalport Youth Hostel. Free Car-parking is available on the roadside at Coalport High Street (SJ 69489 02555). There is also a car-park with fee in front of the youth hostel.
