Beginning at Lanark Railway Station, the walk leads to UNESCO listed New Lanark on tarmac paths, then follows the River Clyde upstream to view the stunning waterfalls; Dundaff Linn, Corra Linn and Bonnington Linn. After crossing at Bonnington Linn, the path winds downstream through woodlands offering beautiful views of the Falls and New Lanark. The return crosses the river at Kirkfieldbank, passes through Castlebank Park and concludes at New Lanark Visitor Centre.
The walk does involve some steep climbs, up and down steps on mostly well maintained paths with some potentially muddy areas and uneven terrain. Walking shoes/boots are therefore recommended.
There is an option to enjoy a shorter walk to Bonnington Linn footbridge, an approx one hour 45 minute round trip that begins and ends at the visitor centre, following the same route there and back. Please note that the return portion of the walk will not be guided by a walk leader but the path is clearly marked.
If you wish to come on the walk you must contact the walk leader by email or text but no more than 2 weeks in advance. Also please provide the leader with a mobile phone number in case arrangements change.
Walkers should not come on the walk if they have any symptoms associated with the Covid virus.
There will be a couple of stops for a snack and lunch. At the end of the walk there will be an opportunity to visit the visitor centre cafe which closes at 4pm.
