Starting from the Compton Inn in Compton Dando we make our way towards coffee in the church yard at Pensford (the church is deconsecrated and is a private home). We then follow the River Chew for a stretch before climbing higher up the valley to make for our lunch stop in the churchyard in Stanton Drew. We then return to Pensford along the River before retracing our steps to Compton Dando.
The Walk is mainly on footpaths and tracks, though there are road sections through the villages, and possibly on the return to Compton Dando. The route is undulating, but there are only two moderate climbs. There are very few stiles (will update when route is finalised).
There are no public toilets on the route. There is a village shop in Pensford (open till 12 noon) and occasionally there is a coffee stall in the village. The Compton Inn will be open for refreshments after the walk, but bring food and drink for the walk.
Points of interest are the grave of Acker Bilk in Publey Church; in Pensford, the 18th Century lock up and the Viaduct (Bristol and North Somerset Railway), which was closed to rail traffic following the floods of 1968 ; and the Standing Stones in Stanton Drew.
