Second in the Beat the Heat series of early morning August walks.
From the car park we will walk directly to the Coombe Hill Boer War Monument, then turn NEE to the lovely Bacombe Hill nature reserve filled with wild flowers and to the great viewpoint on top of the Tumulus where we have a good view of Halton House. We'll cross a field to Bacombe Lane, on the edge of Wendover with views of HS2 works, then open field with easy stiles, very docile pretty guernsey and jersey cows and calves, which ignored my terrier (you really have nothing to fear with these quiet creatures they are such gentle breeds of cows) and woodland footpaths ascending to the lovely secluded village of Dunsmore and past its duckpond with seating. After a pause we continue along the quiet village road and across dry grass meadow with more easy stiles. Then it will be mainly through woodland, passing Little Hampden Manor. We will stop at Buckmoorend Farm Shop's outdoor cafe for refreshment and the final half hour of walking will be along the Ridgeway Path in woodland with a bit of a hill climb to begin with.
Well behaved dogs are allowed.
