A gentle walk that explores the history of Swansea along the River Tawe corridor from the Morfa Copperworks area.
If you have been thinking of trying a group walk for the first time then come along and meet Swansea Ramblers. We’ll look forward to meeting you.
Our walk takes us along the east side of the River Tawe, following an Active Travel Path on a former railway line.
We then cross the main road near Sainsburys and visit the Merchant Navy memorial to the sailors who risked their lives to bring much needed supplies into war-torn Britain.
Following the River Tawe to the sea, we’ll continue to the end of the West Pier for views over Swansea Bay.
Our return journey begins across the marina lock gates as we head north past Sainsbury’s to the Riverside WII Ack-ack Gun.
We’ll continue on the west side of the river then join another Active Travel Path.
Crossing the bridge over the Hitachi train cleaning facility, we’ll follow the Hafod bypass to the Morfa Park and Ride and the end of the walk.
Stiles: There are no stiles on this walk
Toilets: At marina entrance
Terrain: Mostly flat but there will be some steps to ascend/descend on the way). Well-surfaced paths and sand when crossing to the pier
