An undulating circular route from Cowdray Castle Ruins around Cowdray Estate. The walk goes via West Lavington, South Ambersham and through the middle of a golf course. Varied terrain including woods, roads and farmland. Lunch will be enroute but there will also be the opportunity for a refreshment stop about half a mile from the end of the walk (Cowdray Cafe and Farm Shop). Car park charges apply - £1.90 for five hours.
A number of warnings:
1. There is one section of bridleway of about 100m which is both steep and exceptionally muddy - poles and boots recommended
2. There are a number of road stretches. A couple, although country lanes, are still fairly busy so you will need to remain alert and walk in single file
3. At one point the route crosses the A272 on a bend - everyone must be responsible for their own safe crossing of the road
4. There are some areas which are boggy/waterlogged.
