Crailzie Hill Circular
Distance: 9.25 Miles
Ascent: 450m
Paths: Mostly Forest Roads (60%), good paths or tracks (30%), About 1 mile (10%) of steep, rough pathless ground in descent
This is a lovely walk with great views (if the weather allows!)
The walk starts from the long disused toilet block in the Meldons (NT 21244 42841, ///explained.able.frostbite), a short section of footpath takes you up to the forrest road which we then follow gently uphill for about 4 miles during which 11s will be taken at the Harehope Rings. After 11’s we will finish the climb to Wide Hope and then descend for a mile over rough and at times difficult ground, if you’re swithering about sticks - bring them!! The bottom of the descent will be reached with some relief. Hot tired feet can be cooled off during the stream crossing! We then join the cross border drove road through to Stewarton. The drove road runs through new and old forestry (some windblown trees need to be negotiated) and emerges into pastoral land near Stewarton. We then return along the old road/ forrest road to the cars.
