Starting out at Dartmeet, the first point of note is the crossing of the Huccaby stepping stones. After this, we ascend to Combestone Tor. From here, we drop down to the pipeline track, which we follow for most of the way to Bench Tor. At Bench Tor, we drop down to the river. NOTE this is a sharp, possibly slippy descent, that a Bootlegs walk covered earlier this year. From here we head to Sharrah Pools, possibly the best inland wild swimming spot in all Devon (so don't forgot your budgie smugglers, mankini, etc if you want a swim!). We then follow the river round past Newbridge before we come across the second possible swimming spot, Spitchwick. After Spitchwick, we gain some height before joining Dr. Blackall's drive, which offers glorious views of the valley below. We then continue onto Mel Tor for views, Sharp Tor for views, and Yar Tor for views before descending back to the finish at Dartmeet where we may enjoy a paddle in the river.
am open to suggestions about post walk refreshments.
NOTE the length of this walk may be extended to around 14 miles. This is because it needs to cross 2 brooks and some stepping stones. The nature of the rivers on Dartmoor means that heavy rain can quickly increase the height of rivers, in which case a detour may be needed.
NOTE that it is not possible to pay by card at Dartmeet car park. The cost of parking was £2 last time I was there. I do not know the current cost, but will update this website when I know.
