A ramble around one of Telford's most popular new Coronation Walks, showcasing local heritage and wildlife around Dawley and Dawley Pools. Dawley’s history of mining and industry is still visible, with many fine old Victorian buildings in the High Street. Disused tramways, railways, the ruins of old canals, former pit mounds and furnace pools are now parts of Local Nature Reserves, full of wildlife. This walk goes past memorials to local heroes, pit disasters and battles remembered. There are remnants of old rural farms and villages in Little Dawley. Highlights include outstanding views of The Wrekin, even the Shropshire Hills and Brown Clee, Shropshire's highest hill, might be glimpsed in the far distance on a very clear day. We walk past Dawley Castle and Wide Waters Pools, now part of a Local Nature Reserve. Non members are very welcome to come along on both the walk and the optional tea shop lunch afterwards.
We walk along quiet roads, woodland and field paths and tracks, with some short uphill bits, (total ascent 90m). Bring a drink and snack (optional) for a mid walk break. We finish at Amanda's Ow' Bist' Ro for her delicious home made grub and cakes and a social get together. This is a dog friendly walk, dogs must be on leads, please message the leader if you want to ask to bring your dog. Car share to walk start available from Forge Retail Park. Cars depart 10am.
