Derwent Valley
A moderate, circular walk of 5.5 miles in the Derwent Valley starting and finishing at Derwentcote car park, by way of Medomsley, Ebchester and Blackhall Mill.
From the car park, the route heads south towards Medomsley, rising slowly but steadily on a good path. We then descend towards Ebchester - this part of the route is quite rough and walking poles might be of help. We then follow the Derwent river back to Derwentcote. There are approximately seven stiles on the route. There is a possibility of cows in some of the fields, so it would be advisable not to bring any dogs ! There are no public toilets on the route.
After the walk, the plan is to go to the cafe at Lintzford Mill garden centre for refreshments.
Directions:
Approaching on the A694 from Rowlands Gill, Derwentcote car park is on the left of the main road, about 500 metres after the B6310 junction.
Alternatively, approaching from Stanley and Burnopfield on the B6310, turn left on the A694 towards Shotley Bridge - Derwentcote car park is about 500m after the junction, on the left side of the road.
Refreshments: Lintzford Mill garden centre is situated on the right of the A694, going towards Rowlands Gill. What.three.words
