We walk through the dunes and down to the beach where we head south to the North Pier of Amble Harbour and enjoy views of the village and the marina. Our route then takes us north through a wetland nature reserve and into the caravan park before joining the Northumberland Coastal Path leading into the village of Warkworth. The view from the Main Street to the massive medieval keep is one of the finest in the country. The path takes us through the sports field and down to the picturesque river Coquet. From here JMW Turner painted the view of the castle. Our walk takes us over the fortified bridge and back to the carpark.
Terrain: Sandy beach, surfaced tracks, paths and pavements plus a short distance over the sports field which is likely to be muddy following rain. The route takes us across the A1068 on two occasions.Walk Grade: Easy with one short incline.
Refreshments and facilities: About half way around there will be a lunch stop by the river. There is an optional café visit at the end of the walk.
There are public toilets at the Car Park and a second set in Brewery Lane in the village. We pass both sets of toilets twice on this walk!
