Horsley and the Reservoirs: Initially we head west for a short distance and then cross the A69 via a footbridge and then on past Oaten lodge. We proceed down to Gallow Hill and then up towards Nelsons’s Hill and on to Horsley. The route then turn north and we have to cross the A69 at a Pedestrian Crossing. We then pass North Dunslaw Holm and on to Spital. At this point walkers have a choice, for those wanting the longer walk and if the weather is suitable, we will proceed up to Welton Hall and take lunch on the banks of one of the Reservoirs. For those wanting the shorter walk or if the weather is inclement the route follows Whittle Burn, a section of Whittle Dene and then over a field and path back to the cars.
Terrain: Moderate difficulty. Minor roads, fields and woodland paths. Inevitably there are some muddy sections but only to be expected at this time of year.
Refreshments: There will be a lunch stop during the walk at the Reservoirs. If weather inclement, or on the shorter walk, then lunch can be taken on return to the cars.
