Hugging the eastern shoulder of Schiehallion, Dùn Coillich is a diverse mosaic of precious habitats. Thanks to the efforts of an army of volunteers and rural skills trainees dedicated to restoring this landscape from the remnants of a deer farm, it is home to an increasing number of species as native trees return, land is sensitively managed and nature flourishes.
There is a variety of routes that can be followed and the actual walk will be agreed between the walkers and trustee on the day.
The Green & White Route (2miles/3.1km/1.5hrs one way) runs through the heart of Dùn Coillich and is part of the local core footpath network. It has great views of the native woodland planting on the hill’s western side and passes over a limestone outcrop, where many interesting wildflowers grow in the summer.
The walk will be accompanied by Richard Paul, a trustee of the Highland Perthshire Communities Land Trust (HPLCT) which manages the Dun Coillich Community Land.
There will be an opportunity to make a contribution to the trust.
