Overview

Hello Everyone

We all love Ellastone nestling as it does in the shadow of the Weaver Hills, the most southerly peaks of the Pennine chain. Indeed, most walks from here take in the Weavers, but not today (Sunday 25th May) as we're heading east for a change on somewhat easier terrain taking in Snelston, Clifton, Church Mayfield & Middle Mayfield before returning to base on higher ground via The Limestone Way. This is a Moderately graded walk mainly on good paths and quiet lanes with a couple of hills later on following a relatively flat start. Approximately a dozen stiles.

As always, do feel free to join us, but let us know beforehand if you're new to the group. It helps us to look out for you and to keep an eye on numbers, especially if parking is limited, as is the case here.

Registration: 09.30. Walk start: 09.45.  Walk leader: Barry C (07811 141484)

No facilities at the start or on the walk itself.

Parking courtesy of Ellastone Parish Hall to whom we'd like to make a donation of £1.00 per person please, thank you, in appreciation of the committee's assistance with our parking requirements.

Post walk refreshments with the venue to be decided. As always!

Directions primarily for our own members or anyone approaching from the south via Uttoxeter, the A50, and ultimately the B5032 into Ellastone.

From Hednesford via the A460 to Rugeley where straight on at the Miners island to pick up the B5013 signed for Uttoxeter. Follow this road for approximately 12 miles to turn right at Blounts Green onto the A518 for 0.5 mile to reach Uttoxeter itself.

Continue on the A518 around the eastern side of the town by carefully following the multiple signage at the islands for Rocester B5030, which is ultimately joined by turning right at the last island shortly after crossing the A50 overbridge.

Proceed on the B5030, over two islands, and bypass Rocester. After passing the JCB plant on your left continue straight on at the next island on the B5030 (B5032) now signed Ashbourne, for 3 miles to Ellastone.

In Ellastone village turn left shortly after the Duncombe Arms pub signed for Wooton, then right after 100 yards into Church Lane. The Parish Hall & car park is on your left 100 yards later.

Be prepared to block park if necessary.
