Overview

Walk includes approximately 5 miles of the Essex Way from Stagden cross to Great Waltham; starting and finishing in Pleshey, 2 x 5 mile loops.

The terrain is very much agricultural land and mostly flat.

We will spend up to an hour for anyone wishing to book lunch at the pub. Please pre-arrange yourself. Otherwise, bring a pack lunch as there is a recreation ground and a church where you can sit.

In 1397 the Duke of Gloucester was lured away from his castle at Pleshey to Calais, where he was murdered on the orders of Richard II. Thus Pleshey earned its mention by Shakespeare in Act 1, Scene 2 of “Richard II”.
