Overview

This walk is for up to 25 people, including the leader.

A short countryside evening walk with some inclines, a mixture of different terrain and a small amount of road walking on country lanes. This route comes from the Hertfordshire Walker website.

The start point is at The Candlestick Pub car park, where we will be able to visit their small holding which includes a family of goats, a brood of chickens and a majestic white peacock at the beginning of our walk.

The route begins on a trail through a secluded woodland. This leads out onto a couple of small fields into Essendon village, passing the grounds of St Mary’s, the local church.

We will then head onto West End Lane for a short amount of downhill road walking. This takes us onto the main loop through the wheat fields. The footpath leads us through the pretty wildflowers and eventually takes us onto Fisherman’s Path, which runs parallel to the River Lea. Towards the end of the loop, we will pass through some nearby farm land before making our way back to the start point for an optional drink at The Candlestick Pub.

Dogs are welcome on a lead.

For information about walking with the group, including our dog policy, please visit the Stag Walkers website.

Booking your place: Please book your place using the free Meetup website/app. Join the Stag Walkers Meetup group and click the 'Attend' button on the event page.

Please do not turn up for a walk without booking, as places are limited.

If the walk is fully booked, click 'join waitlist' to get a place if one becomes available and please check back regularly as you will likely get a place. The waitlist gives priority to single bookings so if you wish to bring a guest, we recommend booking separately.

Unless you opt in to further communications, we will only use contact information you provide to get in touch about the walk.

  • DON’T NO-SHOW on the day unless it is absolutely unavoidable (we do understand ‘life happens’) because it prevents others from enjoying a walk if it is fully booked.

  • *TAKE NOTE that if you no-show three times, without extenuating circumstances, we will decline further bookings from you for a period of six weeks.*

  • DO car-share or use public transport if possible. To offer a lift or ask for one from a fellow walker, please use the Meetup event page.
